I get it, I’ve been there. I have lived with food intolerances, gut issues and chronic illness. I’ve climbed out of that deep hole and now want to help you do the same.
About Liz Beavis
Liz Beavis is an Accredited Practising Dietitian specialising in food intolerances and gut health, consulting online with clients right across Australia from her base in Newcastle, NSW.
You know something you're eating isn't agreeing with you. Maybe you've been dealing with bloating, headaches, fatigue or skin flare-ups for years. You've kept food diaries, cut out gluten, or dairy, then half your pantry, and you still can't work out what's setting you off. Or maybe you've already found some of your triggers, and now you're stuck eating from a tiny list of "safe" foods, dreading dinner invitations and scanning every menu for hidden problems.
If that's you, I want you to know two things. First, you're not imagining it, and you're not being difficult. Second, a restrictive diet doesn't have to be your forever.
I get it, because I've lived it
Hi, I’m Liz. I was that eczema baby, that snotty nosed allergy kid, then my symptoms rolled into headaches in my teens, then Chronic Fatigue Syndrome and Multiple Chemical Sensitivity in my 20s.
When I first learnt of food intolerances at Uni everything started to fall into place. As a kid, my mum had already worked out some food triggers that seemed completely random at the time. But once I understood how to connect the dots it all made sense. I was then able to take it further, identify my own triggers and work my way back to better health.
Then I hit the same wall you might be facing now. The standard advice was to broaden your diet ‘as much as you can’, which for some people meant not at all, and then stay on that restricted diet forever. I wasn't having that. I kept searching until I found strategies that helped me, and my clients, to carefully push the boundaries, bring foods back and get on with living.
Who I help
I work with adults across Australia who are navigating food intolerances and gut issues, especially the complex cases other approaches haven't untangled. That includes people reacting to salicylates, amines, glutamates, histamine, lactose, dairy, FODMAPs, disaccharides (and more!), and people managing IBS or SIBO. I help people who have been stuck on a restrictive diet for years and are frightened to change it. If you've been told ‘it's just IBS’ or ‘you'll just have to live with it’, you're exactly who I built this practice for.
What most of my clients really want isn't complicated: to stop second-guessing every meal, to say yes to a restaurant booking without anxiety, and to feel confident their food is working for them rather than against them.
How I work with you
My approach has two parts, and the second is the one most people have never been offered.
First, we work out what's actually going on for you. Rather than guessing or cutting out entire food groups indefinitely, I use structured elimination and challenge protocols to systematically identify your genuine triggers, so you're only avoiding what you truly need to avoid.
Second, and this is the part I'm most passionate about, we work towards broadening your diet again. Identifying triggers is only half the job. Supporting your gut health and carefully reintroducing foods over time means many of my clients find they can tolerate far more than they thought, and enjoy eating again.
Every plan is personalised, evidence-based and built around your life, not a printout of forbidden foods.
Qualifications and experience you can rely on
I qualified as a dietitian in 1999 with a Masters of Nutrition & Dietetics from the University of Sydney, and I've been in practice ever since. As an Accredited Practising Dietitian (APD) and member of Dietitians Australia, I'm also a university-qualified nutritionist, so you get both clinical dietetic care and practical, food-first nutrition support.
Where and how we can work together
I'm based in Newcastle, NSW, and consult 100% online via telehealth with clients Australia-wide. No travel, no waiting rooms, and no need to live near a specialist food intolerance dietitian, because wherever you are in Australia, I can work with you.
For over 20 years I ran Newtown Nutrition, a successful private practice in Sydney's Inner West, before moving to fully online consulting. Throughout my career I've focused on food intolerance and gut health, with particular experience in complex, long-standing cases.
I also have experience in supporting people with Metabolic health (Diabetes, Cholesterol etc) and Eating Disorders so I can help you manage your overall health whilst addressing your food intolerances.
Conditions and areas I focus on
My special interest areas include food intolerances (salicylates, amines, glutamates and the FAILSAFE approach), histamine intolerance, lactose intolerance, IBS, SIBO and gut microbiome health. My passion is helping people safely broaden their diet after years of restriction. If your situation doesn't fit neatly into one of those boxes, that could be a sign we should talk, because complex cases are my specialty.
